Sweep netted female from lowland mire 62m asl in Oslofjord area 19th July. Not the best photos for this difficult group, but I give it a try. I suspect plebejus from studying an earlier thread in the forum, based on an impression of that the occiput is covered by white hairs. Best seen with the black body as a background. Any help appreciated as always! Cheers Jørn Jorn R Gustad attached the following image: [257.98Kb] Edited by Jorn R Gustad on 04-07-2017 08:00 |

Difficultmtomjudge, but these hairs look definitely black to me ! Moreover, the frontal stripe is pretty broad. Both suggesting sublunaticornis rather than plebejus. Yesterday, i was looking for these i. Endla (Estonia), however, bad weather pohibited success. Theo |

Invaluable input as always! It was my first impression from the photos, but became unsure when seeing the hairs on dark background. The Norwegian name can be translated into English as Straight-horned Horse-fly. I guess it might be some kind of help in the identification for the experienced eye? Too bad the weather failed your attempt, Theo! Cheers Jørn |
