Long legs do not make a Tipulid, right?

Hello, This is my last question before the holidays (that hopefully bring new interesting Diptera encounters). This long-legged animal sat on a leaf beside our Arboretum pond on 9 August. Superficially it resembles a Tipulid, but the antennae do not match, and the experts will surely see much more differences than I do. So if you give your opinion and get no "thank you" from me, I have already left for the Baltic shore. Therefore: Thank you in advance! Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [183.29Kb] |

Ptychopteridae. Of course not. There are lots of flies that don't belong to Tipulidae family that can have long legs. This is one example. Culicidae can have llong legs as well. Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 13-08-2007 22:23 |

Well, Jorge, if you are thus fast, I can still express my gratitude! The Ptychopteridae family was not mentioned in my book on the Middle European insects that I use to get a quick overview. And here in our gallery it is poorly represented. Meanwhile I learned from the internet that there are 8 species in Germany, so we can perhaps get a little closer to a name? How thrilling! Sundew |
