Hello,

A big checkered fly, but it seems that the back of the abdomen looks more like a Tachinid?

Savoy (France), 2007/7/24, 1750 m above sea.

Am I wrong?

Looks like a dexiine - something close like Dinera perhaps? I can't quite see if the excavation on T1+2 extends back and it would be good to see the face a bit clearer too.

With such long legs, it's a male of Dinera ferina
