Hello,

In Savoy (France), 2007/7/22, 1750 m above sea level, I saw this rather colourful Sepsid.

Nothing in the Gallery.
Any help? Thanks.

Hi Pierre,

This is not a sepsid, but a pallopterid. Palloptera saltuum female.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the reorientation.

Just another question: in Fauna europaea, the species is called Temnosira saltuum. Which taxon is correct?

Which genus is right, Palloptera or Toxoneura? Well, some people have their doubts about the division of the genus Palloptera into several genera. The comment in the British Diptera checklist is that the subdivision into the genera Palloptera, Toxoneura and Temnosira leads to unnatural groups. I have to admit that I have my doubts about the division of the genus Palloptera into several genera, but I haven't studied the family well enough to give a good opinion. So it's upto you if you follow Fauna Europea (Toxoneura saltuum) or for example the British checklist (Palloptera saltuum).

FYI: I will maintain a single genus Palloptera for the Gallery as long as the issue is not resolved satisfactorily.
