Any assistence for ID-ing this female Cordyla appreciated. Just this single female in the sample, no other Cordyla. Some features: Third segment of palpus not as enlarged as in may others, rather brownish with darker smudge; Antannae pale, nine flagellar segments; Legs virtually all yellowish, virtually no darkening at tips of femora anterior setulae on mid and hind tibiae at most 8, dorsal and posterior less than 4-5; Vein M2 not reaching wing margin, M1+2 about three times as long as r-m, Cu and M forks at about same level; Mesonotum darkened and dull, paler near postpronotum; pleura mostly pale except for most dorsal part (brownish) and blackish spot; Abdomen yellow except for darkened median band on tergites. Data: Malaise trap sample southern Netherlands, 20-30 July 2016. Thanks! Paul Beuk attached the following image: [188.27Kb] Paul - - - - Paul Beuk on https://diptera.info |

Hi Paul, Cordyla parvipalpis has such a narrow swelling of the palpus but it is usually somewhat darker. See e.g. here: http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxid=605584 I would leave it as Cordyla sp. because females are always tricky to identify. Jan |

Cordyla parvipalpis was indeed my initial ID but I also noted that it appeared to be paler than described. Thanks.
