Hello,
On July 27 I found this beautiful, not too small, fly in my garden. Tachinidae should be the right family, but who knows the genus or even the species? Such a nice animal deserves to be correctly addressed!
Thanks, Sundew

Thanks, Tony - what an international fly! Seems to have flying time now. My big sympathy for Canada is boosted by this shared species!

You have interrrupta in Berlin as well, but I think this guy is the closely related C. auriceps. The dusting on the thorax is different.

That's interesting, Theo. Meanwhile I found a photo of C. auriceps at www.fugleognatur.dk, which matches very well. Your ability to detect such subtle distinctions on a small-size picture is admirable. Many thanks!

thanks, but to Tachinid standards this is not subtle.
But have to know where to look for. The key by Tschorsnig & Herting for central Europe is very good (but in german)

As German is my native tongue, I should try to get that paper. Meanwhile I will dedicate all my tachinid photos to you, Theo.
Best wishes,
