I've just found a couple of old photos of a Muscid taken in Norfolk, UK on 6 June 2003. For some reason I didn't retain the specimen and the quality of the pictures is too poor for me to try and key it out. Hopefully there's enough there to give it a name.

Do you know the number of post ac setae? Do you also have a better view of tibia 2 I need to know if the p setae are in 2 rows? The number of pd setae on tibia 3 would also be useful Dr Elisabeth A. Harris @FloraConsUK |

Thanks for your interest Elisabeth. There are 4 pairs of postsutural dc and 1 pair of prescutellar ac. The other details are impossible to make out from the original pictures. I'm pretty sure I know what this is now and it isn't a Phaonia, nor is it included in Gregor et al. I made the mistake of spending too much time playing around with my, at the time, new digital camera and taking shortcuts when it came to identification. |

What conclusion did you come to?

I've now abandoned that idea as well, so I'm back to square one. This is the only other picture I have, which gives a better idea of the colour. empeejay attached the following image: [83.62Kb] |

Having exhausted every other possibility, I'm left with Helina subvittata as the closest match. It was also found at a site with several fallen poplar trees. |
