Foulness 15/7/2007 Habitat: Saltings Length ~15mm I'm fairly sure this is Tabanidae genus Atylotus Looking through previous forum postings suggests that latistriatus is the only British sp with pubescent eyes, and that the habitat is right. The pubescent eye feature holds only for the female sex, in males Atylotus eyes are always hairy. And this a male. Nevertheless, this is undoubtedly A. latistriatus. Probably quite rare in the UK, but I'm too lazy to reach for Stubbs at the moment. Congratulations. This species is active till the end of August Theo |
