A couple of weeks ago I found this strange, quite small bumblebee on the flowers on our terrace. It had a rather flat and pointed face and the thorax was brown with a distinct dark centre. Also it had a small brown tip to the abdomen.
Two days later I found another four or five of the same bumblebees at the edge of a small wooded area along the river Linge with lots of flowers. They were foraging mainly on Echium vulgare.

Does anyone know which species this could be?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks cthirion. Is this a more or less regular colour variation then, with that black patch on the thorax? I never noticed it before.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
