This female Leucostomatini was found in the outskirts of Madrid on 07.V.2015. Area with mediterranean vegetation. Any chance to be sure of the genus? The closest I can get is Leucostoma, but for some reason something looks wrong to me... and I don't know what it is awkward

Thanks for whatever input! Smile

Hi Piluca,

Looks OK to me as female Leucostoma.

The males are much broader generally, maybe that confuses you.
As you know very difficult genus !

Thanks a lot, Theo!! Smile

I am much more familiar with males (genus level, not species, of course! Wink ) Features took me to Leucostoma but it looked a bit odd to my eyes. Could easily be what you mention about the body shape.

Don't worry, I don't expect ID to species Wink What I did need was to be sure of the genus Smile

Best

Piluca

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
