Hi there I saw this one fly feeding on umbellifers by the roadside at Royal Common, near Elstead ,Surrey. The area is mature deciduous woodland with plenty of open fresh water. It may be the tachinid Electophasia crassipennis. Would welcome other opinions. Stuart EDIT Paul Beuk: I happened to have a copy of the picture and cropped it. Moreover, I removed the spaces and the commas from the name and now it should be okay. Stuart Ball attached the following image: [118.27Kb] Edited by Paul Beuk on 10-07-2007 10:11 |

Hi Stuart - try removing any spaces in the file name and keep it under 200KB I'm very excited to see the photo - I have been watching-out for any Ectophasia for a number of years!

Thanks for that Paul ... sadly it's just a female Phasia hemiptera (Ectophasia spp. don't have a petiole) |

Petiole is missing in the glossary. What is it? |

In this case I mean the petiole in vein-m ... it's the "stalk" created when vein-m (median vein) meets r4+5 before the wing edge In most tachinids vein-m never joins r4+5 or it meets excactly at the wing edge. |

Try: petiole (quick and dirty).
