I think this is Choerades sp. Can someone help with species name? c15mm, Indre et Loire (37), central France, 21 June 2007. Sitting on an oak leaf on the edge of a wood on a ridge overlooking a maize crop, late evening (must have been nearly 21.00 hours).

I think it's Choerades fuliginosa.

Many thanks Danny - fuliginosa was my best guess too, so it's reassuring that you think so too.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
