I found this fly in my garden on 1 October 2015. My attempts to identify it have led to a tentative identification of Eumea mitis, though I may have been influence by finding one of those in 2014. First impression is that it is good and mitis is a late autumn species. However, the wing venation seems to be a little off: the apical crossvein should hit the wing margin in proximity of the wing tip. It seems to be more anterior. Is this perhaps artificial ? Thanks Theo |

I hope Chris won't mind me relaying his comments after examining the specimen. He said, "It's not as clear as some specimens I have seen (the face looks flat to me, not weakly concave) but the other features seem to match, like the face & antenna length - plus the hairs ... so I think it qualifies as mitis". |
