I have found these two female Platypezidae-flies in the middle part of Sweden.First picture from sept 17 2014.The second from okt 2 2015.I dont have access to any modern work over the family, but an old Swedish key gives the genera Agathomyia. If I then just compare pictures from internet, they looks very much like A sexmaculata, but that species has just been found once in Sweden (the most southern part) in 2013.Can it be confused with any other Northeuropean Agathomyia-species ?

Best Regards/Patrik

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
