Resembles Acetor nigrifinis (Ephydridae) in the Gallery.

Thanks Paul. Incidentally, is Acetor a correct spelling or a typo of Actocetor? |

Certainly the wing pattern matches Actocetor nigrifinis in the revision by Dikow and Mathis (2002). Although known from much of the Oriental Region, I'm not sure that the species has been recorded from China before. If you can catch a male, it would be worth checking the genitalia to confirm that it is this species.

I guess that Tony's reply answered your question about the type.

Many thanks Tony and Paul. Actocetor nigrifins apppears to be a new record for China though Dr. John C. Deeming (retired Dipterist from NHM, UK) visited HK in 2007 and caught a fly identifed as Actocetor sp. from the Hong Kong Wetland Park on 15.v.2007. |
