Naro-Fominsk env., Moscow region, Russia Wing length 4mm, wings clear, bases reddish. Head and palpi greenish yellow, antennae yellow, antepronotum greenish. Thorax mainly reddish-brown, posterior scutum and humeral regions with strong green pruinosity, some pleural regions also green. Scutellum reddish, postnotum dark brown with greenish tinge, with a longitudinal furrow. Halteres yellow with knobs more greenish. Abdominal segments mainly green, terminal segments more reddish, tergites basally with wide (up to 1/2 width) dark rings. Legs greenish yellow, tips of femora, tibiae and tarsal segments darkened, 2 terminal tarsal segments dark. Tibiae I very short, at least 1.5 times shorter than metatarsi I. Maybe nr. Cladopelma? Male genitalia. Not in the Harnischia complex (which includes Cladopelma) because the superior and inferior volsellae are both well-developed and hairy. I am away from my books right now. This could be Chironomus or near. The group including Polypedilum is similar but tends to have a single long hair at the tip of each inferior volsella. |

Chironomus (Chironomus). Compare aprilinus, luridus, riparius. I do not have descriptions of those species, only illustrations, and there may be additional similar species in Russia I do not know about. How long are the hairs on segment 2 of fore tarsi, the "beard", compared to the diameter of the tarsomere? |
