While others can't climb, using infinite pains,
I, gravity turning to jest,
Ascend, with all ease, perpendicular planes,
Rough or smooth, just as pleases me best.

Not in the Harnischia complex (which includes Cladopelma) because the superior and inferior volsellae are both well-developed and hairy.

I am away from my books right now. This could be Chironomus or near. The group including Polypedilum is similar but tends to have a single long hair at the tip of each inferior volsella.

Chironomus (Chironomus). Compare aprilinus, luridus, riparius. I do not have descriptions of those species, only illustrations, and there may be additional similar species in Russia I do not know about.

How long are the hairs on segment 2 of fore tarsi, the "beard", compared to the diameter of the tarsomere?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
