Hi, i was wondering if this is Myopa buccata or Sicus ferrugea? How do you tell the difference?

Thanks

Richard

My guess is Sicus (smaller gena), not Myopa (large gena). Just compare the height of the eye with the area of 'cheek' below it. Smile

Thanks Chris - I have a few other images to check now! Both species just looked superficially similar to me from the books!

The wings in Myopa buccata are much stronger spotted.
Morever, buccata is active april - first half of may, whereas Sicus started this week. So this should set them apart.
