Hi,

who can identify this? Is it a tachinid?

Thanks a lot!

Greetings,

Lennart

To me it both looks plausible... so who of you is the expert? :-)

Thank you!

It is not about experts, it is about arguments.

Phryxe has a strong prae-alar bristle, hairy eyes and discal bristles on tergites. 3 x disagreement.

The wing venation is non consistent with Voria. Though it is close.
So in that case once instantly has to consider Exorista.
The abdominal pattern is highly characteristic (in central Europe) for Exorista larvarum. A late summer species from meadows and heaths.

So that is what it is: female Exorista larvarum.

Alright..thank you very much Theo, for that detailed explanation! The word "expert" is elastic, luckily... so if you have the right arguments, you're nothing else than that... in my eyes ;-)

Best wishes,
Lennart

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
