This Big Asilidae (40mm long) was recorded by my friend Luigi (gigi58) in Italy Sicilia Trapani
19 05 2007 in a grassland and littlepalm grove to the slopes of the mount Cofano, and published in the Italian Wildlife forum "Natura Mediterraneo".
Luigi ask me if is possible deteminate it .
I have been authorized from the author to publish this Photo in Diptera.info forum.

Unfortunately, Mediterranean species not are very known.

According to chaetotaxy and size, it seems to be a male of a Machimus species, but there are some few other genera having similar characteristics.
