According to Adler, Currie, and Wood (2004) adult females of most members of the Simulium tuberosum complex are indistinguishable. |

Thanks for the clarification. Adler et al. list 9 spp. in the complex, most can be ruled out because of distribution. Based on their maps, this female could be either: S. conundrum, S. tuberosum cytotype A, or S. vandalicum; or something completely different. It does seem rather late in the year for a Black Fly; most are bothersome in late spring-early summer here in southern NB. |
