I don't even know if this is a fly or not. Saw it on grass ina heatherfield. Slow flying and not scared. About 1 cm long. Can anyone refine my wide search?
Thank you.

Come to think of it, it can't be a fly with those long antennae. But what then?

Depends on what you call a fly. Strictly speaking, flies are all insects belonging to the Diptera and this one certainly beongs there. It is a dark-winged fungus gnat of the genus Sciara, family Sciaridae.
