is this a Chrysotimus species, and if so is it possible to say if it's flaviventris or molliculus? It appears to have a black tip to the abdomen

thanks,
Jeremy

Quoting Grichanov (2006):

Genus Chrysotimus Loew
Antenna entirely black; apical section of CuA1 shorter than basal section; 1.5-2.5.......molliculus (Fallén)
Antenna yellow, only postpedicel somewhat darkened; apical section of CuA1longer than basal section; 1.25-2.0... flaviventris (von Roser)

The antenna character matches flaviventris. Abdomen color is sexually dimorphic in the genus. He may have omitted it from the key for that reason.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
