Hello, unfortunately I could only take some photos from a distance of several meters of this 10 mm fly. At a hedge near forest (northwest Germany). Possibly [i]Chalcosyrphus nemorum]/i]? I don't think so. The abdomen is not short enough, and I cannot see the yellow base of the hind tibia. The stout, peculiar hind femora recall a Merodon... I do not know if there is such a shining species in Germany. We need an expert's opinion! |

Hello Sundew, thanks for your comment. Meanwhile I have got a hint in my forum from Achim Lindner, that it looks like Tropidia. Only two species in Germany: T. scita and fasciata. I can find nearly no infos about the latter. Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

Tropidia sounds very good! It is a new genus for me, but the pictures in http://www.syrphi...ecie=scita and http://www.wildab...sibly.html look very similar! |

Yes, especially the end of the abdomen looks very characteristic.
