This was taken today in southern England on chalk downland. Is it Leptarthrus brevirostris? Smile

I know it is probably one of the easier asilids ... but it never does any harm to get the opinion of an expert! Wink

The hind tarsus of the male is an easy give-away for this species. nothing else like it in the UK. Dunno which of the chalk downs you saw it?

In 1989 I collected it on one of the Surrey chalk downs. cannot quite recall which one, though.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
