Hi Thijs

This is not an obvious spring species. The humerus seems to have only 3 bristles in a triangle, which would imply Huebneria. However, I don't see erect apical scutellar. So no obvious fit.
Do you have the specimen ?
If so, can you check whether the hind coxae are bare or with 1-2 setulae on back side ?

Hi Theo,
No, it is flying in the garden. Sorry. I have overwintering plants at home. Maybe that's why it is too early.
I've no better photos of the thorax and abdomen.
I don't think it helps, but I've added three photos.
Regards, Thijs

The hairs on the hind coxae are so difficult to see that they are about the hardest to find on any tachinid. Even with a specimen they can be fiddly to find Wink

Huebneria is out. Huebneria has a red scutellum. Sorry, my mistake.

I see only 1 reclinate orbital seta, so I am starting to think Eumea

Ah.... Thanks. I've an Eumea mitis (probably) in September 2010 http://www.dipter...d_id=33740. That's the only Eumea I've seen in the garden. The other one is E. linearicornis I read.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
