Panorpa germanica?

Picture taken outside Aberdeen, July 3rd 2013. Checked for Panorpa gemanica on the net and it seems quite similar. However the fly on the picture I sent seems to have thinner green rings on the back part. Regards Jozza jozza attached the following image: [129.83Kb] |

Not Diptera so moved to the other forum... I am not sure how positively you can identify female Panorpa spp. but I always prefer to give them a wide berth. The wing colour looks too black for germanica but this is just another generalization so it doesn't give you an "identification", just an "indication" Manager of the UK Species Inventory in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity at the Natural History Museum, London. |
