I cannot see dorsal setae on the hind basitarsus, so I say Hercostomus or Gymnopternus. |

Thank you Stefan. Is there a possibility to differentiate between these genera in the field? Regards, Ingo My diptera videos: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User %3APristurus/gallery/Diptera |

It is more likely Hercostomus than Gymnopternus because M and R4+5 are convergent. |

Dear Ingo, the best method is to collect specimens and to make photos. e.g. from the male genitalia. |

Well, the species was not very seldom at this place and I will try to collect a few of them in the next summer. Thanks and regards, Ingo

Well, dear fellows, to me this looks like Sybistroma obscurellum (female) on the basis of the wing venation and the rather pale legs, and certainly also considering the habitat (swampy forest) and the late date (Gymnopternus are mainly springtime species, with only small 2nd generations in some species), but as Stefan mentions: it's very difficult to ID the specimen without a specimen at hand. So this would be my best guess. Cheers, Marc |
