This Dolichopodidae pupa was found in the Oosterschelde, an inland saline lake in the southwestern part of The Netherlands on 21.viii.2013 together with several Xanthocanaca ranula (http://www.dipter...d_id=58481). I suspect this pupa being Machaerium maritimae but I have no references to verify this except Smith (1989): figure 226 on page 186. Can anybody verify my identification and/or does anybody has a reference with a description? Thanks atylotus attached the following image: [42.31Kb] |

Should be correct. As I understood, they can have a 'cocoon' made of grains of sand.
