Fairly sure this is a Mansonia species, possibly annulifera

Thanks Tony, much appreciated! Can't find too many pics online. Are they usually white like this? There were too many around for it to have been an albino I think.

Mansonia generally have white bands on the legs, and annulifera is regarded as a pale species (some of the others are darker brown with white marks). The presence of four white dots (rather than stripes) on the thorax is also a feature of annulifera. It's certainly not an albino, or any other colour variant caused by lack of pigment - there are plenty of dark (melanin-rich) scales on the legs.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
