Hi

* locality - Silgueiros - Viseu - PORTUGAL
* date - 2007.04.22
* size - 5-6 mm (medium fly)
* habitat - woodland, near river
* substrate - Heracleum sp.

a little blurry, sorry.

Gymnosoma sp. Perhaps rotundatum?

Theo can help better with these but I am not sure you'll get an identification. The genus contains many very nice, brightly-coloured, slightly variable and nearly identical species... and the situation gets worse in southern Europe Grin

Then your problems have only just started!! Wink The general advice is that Gymnosoma is a genus that needs serious revision... but nobody is brave enough to take it on! Wink The Central European key (Tschorsnig & Herting, 1994) is your best bet - let us know what you find Smile
