Any help in narrowing down the I.D. of this flower fly would be much appreciated. I have found flower fly larva eating aphids on fireweed and wondered if this one could possibly be an adult that would lay eggs on fireweed. Photo taken in Juneau, Alaska in summer. Thanks so much Ectemnius. One of their larvae that I collected from a fireweed plant in Fairbanks recently pupated and the adult emerged and is awaiting identification at the Univ. of Alaska museum, Hopefully it will be a Platycheirus. Be nice to have the photo connection. Bob Robert H. Armstrong |
