Hello,

is this the Phorocera obscura? Deciduous woodland in dunes, west of Holland (Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen), on 10 may.

Regards, Ramon

Looks very Blondellini to me (2 prae DC, humeral bristels in a triangle).

Oswaldia muscaria comes in mind, which is pretty abundant right now.

Hmm, yeah I have to agree with Theo, just on gut feeling. Looks quite skinny and blondeliine ... I wish I saw Oswaldia abundantly Smile

Eyes are really bare this time, (? or do I lack the ability to see hairs on eyes of Cyzenis ??)

O. muscaria is the earlierst, pretty abundant here in Finland too but flies usually in June.

Took me ages to spot that Oswaldia have the triangle of bristles on the humeral callus - it isn't mentioned when you key it in Belshaw. It makes an excellent confirmatory feature - as do the yellow halteres Smile

Thanks! So this is probably O. muscaria, or is it for sure?

If Jaakko agrees with me, it is ' beyond reasonable doubt'
as sure as it gets from picture

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
