No, these aren't Tipula cava. Tipula oleracea is the most probable species. In spring there are no look-alikes as Tipula paludosa only starts flying in late summer and Tipula subcunctans in mid-autumn. Thus based on phaenology it should be oleracea. The genus Tipula (Tipula) can be recognized by the dark brown front edge of the wing and the milky streek behind it. Cheers, Walther |
