The shading around cross-vein rm and the small antennae suggest Trixa conspersa perhaps? Grin

Big, very early spring and on treetrunks = Ernestia puparum.

Chris, Theo thanks for your help. This is a distinctive species (unlike many Tachinids) so I try to remember this one.
