looks very much like the larva of a longhorn beetle, Cerambycidae. Can't help you with the species name, sorry. |

I spotted rhagium inqiisitor at same place http://agrozoo.ne...19dd74eb14, doh 100% confirming larva brown 'tail' as nicely seen on my photo is no go comparing to google images. Will name it r.inquisitor for now. Thanks. highly searchable nature photo galery --> http://agrozoo.ne....jsp?l2=en |

On second look: http://www1.pms-l...pecies=121. Translation of text there: larvaes are developed under bark ! Same text for all rhagium sp. there. Mine was found deep inside wood, like 15 cm deep in hard wood. Any comment on that ? Is text on link missleading ? highly searchable nature photo galery --> http://agrozoo.ne....jsp?l2=en |

You are right, the larvae of Rhagium burrow mainly in the surface layer of the trunk. Maybe something else, eg Sapedra, but it is difficult for someone who has not worked specifically with them. Sorry I couldn't help you. |
