Is this a Thricops? If so, is it possible to determine the species? Looks like Thricops diaphanus, but I have no clue how to separate it from similar species. Collected in southern Sweden in July this year. /Magnus magnusp attached the following image: [144.78Kb] Edited by magnusp on 05-10-2012 15:18 |

I'd say Phaonia pallida. T. diaphanus male has an apical spur on t3, this one seems has not. Thricops has setulae on the inner surface of hind coxa, usually hardly visible on photo, but well may be visible on the yellow fly like this one. Hind coxa seems bare. Moreover, it seems to me that 2 hairs are visible on the ventral side of wing on the base of R4+5. Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

Thank you so much! I have added a crop of the original photo that better shows the characters you are describing. /Magnus magnusp attached the following image: [169.48Kb] |
