26 Feb 2007, New Brunswick, Canada. We still have about a meter of snow on the ground but the temp actually went above 0 C today. This fly on my deck in the sun. Must have overwintered as an adult.

Thanks Paul. Checking Marshall, S.A. 2006 Insects Their Natural History and Diversity. Firefly Books. 718 pp. he states that P. rudis is the common species overwintering in houses. This then seems the most likely species.
