I think it's a Tachinid - something like Gymnosoma.

Thanks Susan, was I ever way off. Always thought of Tachinids as flies with stout bristles. Seems to be just one sp. in NB, G.canadense. Possibility that it may be Gymnodytia dubia or Gymnodytia occidua as these 2 spp. occur here and were originally placed in Gymnosoma. |

The top image is such a clear picture of the sub-scutellum, can we get it cross-referenced to the glossary?

Perhaps Theo or Chris would kindly submit a definition of sub-scutellum, with a cross reference to post-scutellum (which I think is a synonym), and a link to this posting to illustrate? Would that work?
