Hello J?rgen

Thanx for your post.:-)

Today I found another picture of the same(!) fly. I photographed this picture 2-3 minutes later. The quality of this photo was bad. Therefore I packed it into the second file "failed photos".

Perhaps does one see more now?

best regards
Markus

Or perhaps Phaonia rufiventris, which is supposed to have narrow dark bands across the abdomen on the margins of the tergites, as seems to be the case in the upper photo.
See also this thread: http://www.dipter...#post_7264, with an interesting discussion about the characters of P. subventa and P. rufiventris.

Hello!

If I read it correctly, Phaonia subventa often has a black band in the middle of the abdomen, which I believe to see on the first photo.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
