Hello Forum,

this is my first post in this interesting forum!

I photographed this fly on the 25th of May in 2005 in Handewitt (Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany). It flew on an edge of the forest.

Can anybody help me with the identification of these fly (Tephritis sp., Campiglossa sp.,...)? I?ve got the tip with Tephritis or Campiglossa in another forum.

Regards,
Mario Finkel

Hi Mario,

Tephritis vespertina, you can't see any of the characters separating Campiglossa from Tephritis, for that you need either a photograph from the side, to see teh tongue of you'ld need a photo showing the tergites. In this case the wingpattern is sufficient for id.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
