Hello,

This fly looks a bit like Jorge's Nemoraea pellucida in the gallery, but the color of the scutellum seems to be different.
Picture was taken in July, near Heerlen (Kunderberg).

Hi Ben

Looks like Thelaira nigripes. Males can be quite reddish, or predominantly black.

Thanks Theo,

It indeed does look quite different comparing with this one.

It's a highly/annoyingly variable genus Sad But with so few antero-dorsal bristles on the middle tibia it should be nigripes

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
