hello Flyforum,

It's almost freezing outside but the sun brought me some flies on my balcony.

Is it Calliphora vicina?

Looks a bit like it..

Robert

Brown basicosta and reddish cheeks so I would say C vicina. The anterior spiracle isn't terribly bright, but it does seem to be brownish, and the beard doesn't seem to be really black, but I think is greyish, so I guess that's OK for vicina too. I'm a bit nervous now though that Theo has designated me as wizard.Smile

Hi Susan,

Nice to inform me about some characteristics of C. vicina.
You could be right.
I'll name it C. Vicina and put a little questionmark after it!

thanks a lot for your help,

Robert Heemskerk,

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
