Hi,

This fly seems very similar to the one posted by Nikita, is this also a Fucellia ? it was photographed in May 2006, Southern England but not near the coast (about 60km away)

No Chas, it is Anthomyiidae, but not Fucellia.
Fucellia has rather small and round (not oval) eyes.
You can find Fucellia in (and only) very sea shore line on wet sand or on algae.
