Dates: Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, Schenefeld near Hamburg, at a tree trunk near a small rivulet, 25 msm, Outsidefoto: kuv, 22 April 2012, about 17 o'clock. I think it looks similar to Eloeophila.maculata (found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Eloeophila.maculata.jpg). Is that ok? ID possible? Please help.
Best regards
Kuv

If you have the idea of a name (e. g. you thought of Eloeophila maculata), use the "forum search" to see if there are some earlier discussions of this subject. You would have come across this: http://www.dipter...pid=153438, which gives a lot of information. First, Limnophila schranki seems to be a good match, and second, the wiki picture you refer to does not show Eloeophila maculata but Limnophila cf. schranki as well. The supernumerary crossvein that characterizes Eloeophila is lacking Smile.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
