Muscidae: Mydaea?

Member Location: northwest Germany Posts: 14250 Joined: 11.09.04	Hello! Could this 10 mm Muscid be a Mydaea, or is it again just one of the many Phaonias? Found on Nov-27 on tree trunk (Ostwestfalen/Germany). Thanks for comments! This matter needs more light, may be Robert ask Adrian Pont, may be Tony or Kahis reply. In our Gellery comment under Phaonia rufiventris is: "The thorax is too dark to be pallida and too yellow to be subventa, so I am sure that you are right it naming it as rufiventris" Is there only this vague way to ID? As far as I understood Pont's comment it doesn't much matter 1 or 2 presutural ac are? (In case of Juergen fly - 2). Any idea? Nikita Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University

Member Location: Ulster Museum, Belfast, Ireland Posts: 288 Joined: 11.11.05	Muscidae are very difficult from photographs.Now I see that no thorax yellow is showing in dorsal view (see second gallery photo of rufiventris for comparison ) I wonder if this is Mydaea spinipes Karl ? though this species is smaller at 7mm. Robert P.S. Keep photographing Muscidae the more photos we see the better the ids will become, especially if we have confirmed id.
