A Syrphus, yes. But whether it is ribesii is, in my opinion, uncertain. It could be S. torvus. One needs to see whether there are hairs on the eyes. If that's the case it would be S. torvus. Note: hard to see with females. Then the colour of femur 3 and the colour of the hairs on that femur are of importance in distinguishing ribesii and vitripennis. Hope that helps, Ectemnius |

Your comments were VERY helpful. I have examined the eyes in the image and they are without hairs but I cannot examine the legs due to them being covered by the wing.
