Hello, Any help on identification very much appreciated. Can it be Coptocephala gebleri? Muhabbet Cesa attached the following image: [105.83Kb] |

Looks like Coptocephala for sure and C. gebleri is found in Turkey; this link http://www.biol.uni.wroc.pl/cassidae/European%20Chrysomelidae/coptocephala.htm gives good photos of many species, and yours looks very like gebleri, but an expert (I'm not..) would no doubt say you need to examine genitalia to be sure.. I took a photo in May this year on Lesbos, within sight of Turkey, of a small chrysomelid, a male Clytrini I think, maybe a Coptocephala sp., but I can't find a good match for it. Please tell me if you can! nick upton attached the following image: [117.64Kb] Nick Upton - naturalist and photographer |

Dear Nick, In the same link I found a Macrolenes species: http://www.biol.uni.wroc.pl/cassidae/European%20Chrysomelidae/macrolenes%20dentipes.htm Especially fore leg shape and colouration fit well to M.dentipes. Of course genitalic features will be helpful for more precise ID. Greetings |

Many thanks Cesa, yes this looks very promising for my little Clytrini beetle. I left its gentialia intact.. so I may never be quite sure, but good to get close with the ID.

You're welcome, though I'm not sure I helped much! I'm a big fan of beetles, but there are rather a lot of them around, so some famIlies get a bit tricky to be sure of IDs, especially just from photos!
