Could I try to repit a question? Now I know that it is common. The question is: the way Scathophaga eat the victim is Asilidae-like or Dolichopodidae-like or else or unknown? Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

As they have no piercing mouth parts I assume it will be in a similar way to the Dolichopodidae though they may secrete some digestive fluids as well to facilitate feeding. And the dance fly is a species of Empis, nothing more specific as yet. Edited by Paul Beuk on 11-10-2005 19:56 Paul - - - - Paul Beuk on https://diptera.info |

Thank you Paul. And it seems to me that digestive fluidsis is important, as in both cases I observed Scothophaga act not completly as Dolichopodidas. Scathophaga rather lick the victim tenderly than pump. Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |
