Hi,

I don't think this is in the keys, and if it is I can't find it. I found this first on rough grasses on the roadside, eventually they were in my garden as well but not in big numbers. Near Lincoln UK.

With striped front tarsi, part orange antennae and black-tipped hind femora this should be identifiable?

These were taken on 23rd June but I have other shots. Size 6-7mm

Thank you Igor! That is very, very interesting! It seems I have a new species of Poecilobothrus for the UK, it's not on our list, not even as a synonym! Grin

I have found one more male on this site by searching the site, from Slovakia and a possible female from Portugal!

I will have to contact whoever I need to contact here to record this. Cool

I found there are a few records from the Essex Field Club, mainly along the Thames Estuary. I wonder why this has not been added to the list here then?

Four records from Suffolk..

I found a document where it seems to have been transferred from Hercostomus in 2005?

Thank you Mark, the NBN is a bit slow to show but I found the records are mostly below that invisible line from the Wash to the Severn, apart from a couple along the Humberside estuary.

They are doing well in my garden now, I've had an small explosion in population this year.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
