The mis-matched legs colors were what caught my eye about this fly. It was small, only 2.3 mm in length. Arista obviously plumose. Open area near woodlands, piles of cut grass nearby. You often find dark front and pale hindlegs in Sciomyzidae, but the arista on this fly is typical of Ephydridae, and this leg colouration is frequent in the Psilopini. I'll see if I have any literature which will help with this one. Tony ---------- Tony Irwin |

Thanks, Tony. Yes, I thought the arista were interesting. They seem to be plumose on one side only, or is that just an artifact of the flash lighting up only one side well?

No, that's typical of a plumose arista in Ephydridae - the branches are only on the upper side.
